TRAIL MOUNTAIN AND SKYWAY LAUNCH A NEW CHALLENGE FOR VERTICAL SPECIALISTS
11 kilometres for a positive difference in altitude of over 2200m with arrival on the Punta Helbronner panoramic terrace of the new Skyway del Monte Bianco cableway at 3,466 metres of altitude. This is the challenge that on 8 August 2015 the 1st Courmayeur Mont Blanc SkyRace throws down to the best international athletes in the speciality.
At a regional level, the Courmayeur Mont Blanc SkyRace is part of the Tour Trail Valle d'Aosta in the Défi Vertical Group in the Jolly Tracks category. The Défi Vertical is currently made up of 4 speciality races which, as the name clearly indicates, constitute the main vertical challenges in Valle d'Aosta.
The CMB Skyrace, open to all categories of runners, will start at 9.00am from Courmayeur at an altitude of 1224m with arrival by 13.30pm at Punta Helbronner at 3466m. The Elite Athletes, specialists in the discipline, will complete the route in approximately 2 hours. There is a single time gate at 11.30 a.m. at the Pavillon.
Exceptional testimonial of the CMB Skyrace will be Marco De Gasperi, world record holder on the vertical kilometre for two consecutive years in 31′ 42", with a first-class international palmares:
- 6 World Individual Mountain Running Championships
- 12 World Team Mountain Running Championships
- 1 European Individual Mountain Running Championships
- 12 European Team Mountain Running Championships
- 1 Individual European Skyrunning Championships
- 3 Individual Italian Mountain Running Championships
- 9 Italian Mountain Running Relay Championships
- 1 Italian Skyrunning Championships
Winner of:
- 2 Mount Kinabalu Climathon (MAS) with current course record
- 2 Sierre-Zinal (SUI)
- 5 Vertical Kilometer Val D'Isere (FRA) with current course record
- 2 Hochfelln Berglauf (GER)
- 1 Jungfrau Marathon (SUI)
- 1 Vail Vertical Kilometer (USA)
Contacts are being made to allow the participation of the main international champions of the discipline. Other top-level athletes have already confirmed their participation, such as Pablo Criado (3rd at the Tor des Geants 2011) and Annemarie Gross (1st woman in two editions of the Tor des Geants).
From 1998 to 2002, with the exception of 2001, the Federation Sport Altitude organised the famous SkySki race there, a high-level competition and a source of inspiration for the current organisers of the SkyRace. It was from this inspiration that Trail Mountain proposed and laid out the route today of the CMB Skyrace ready to welcome new international sporting challenges.
