Six races in three different provinces between novelties and confirmations
The 23rd edition of the "Coppa delle Dolomiti", one of the most prestigious and long-standing circuits in the national ski mountaineering scene, will kick off next Sunday in Val Comelico.
After the starter reserved to the youth categories on 30 November, when Nicolò and Pietro Canclini won the 21st Fabio Stedile Memorial on the snow of the Presena Glacier, on Sunday 1 March it will be the turn of the seventh Pitturina Ski Race to award the first points of the 23rd Coppa delle Dolomiti, which is looking for the successors of Ivo Zulian and Francesca Martinelli, winners of the last edition of the circuit organised by the staff headed by President Alberto Stedile.
After the 'Pitturina', a national Fisi team race, the circuit will land in the Conca Agordina for the pr ima Mezzaluna Ski Race, a national individual race. On 15 March, then, it will be the turn of another individual race, the fourth Kreuspitze Trophy in Val di Fiemme, followed on 22 March by a classic of Italian ski mountaineering, namely the Ski Alp Dolomiti di Brenta in Madonna di Campiglio, now in its 41st edition. The race will also be valid as the Italian team championship and will therefore attract the 'elite' of the national ski mountaineering movement to the start.
The grand finale of the 2015 Dolomites Cup will be served up in April, when the fourth edition of the Marmoleda Full Gass - a national individual race held on the snows of the Val di Fassa - will precede the appointment with the fifth edition of the Adamello Ski Raid, a team race included in the Grande Course circuit, as well as a World Cup round. It will therefore be the Passo del Tonale and the peaks of the Adamello group that will host the epilogue of the circuit which, as has been the tradition for a few years now, will award its winners in Trento as part of the Film Festival della Montagna, scheduled from 1 to 10 May.
The race will be held in the Adamello Valley in the Dolomites.
Turning to the regulations of the 2015 Coppa delle Dolomiti, individual rankings will be drawn up for the women's and men's categories. For competitors competing in pairs, points will be awarded to both equally, bearing in mind that, as the placings are individual, competitors will be able to change team-mates in each race, as long as the teams are either only female or only male. In the event of 'ex equo', the number of competitions run will be taken into account and, in the event of a further tie, the sum of the times of the individual competitions in which the competitors were opponents will be considered. At the end of each competition, a points ranking will be drawn up on the basis of placings, bearing in mind that, should different starts be scheduled within each individual event for each type of category (international or national), the best absolute times will be taken into consideration to decide the ranking, without forgetting that a difficulty coefficient will be calculated according to the type of event (national race, international race, World Cup, etc., with a special coefficient for races outside the Fisi calendar). The coefficient will also be calculated on the basis of the number of qualified athletes per category.
The final individual rankings of the circuit will be drawn up taking into account the four best results out of the six races in the programme. All competitors (female and male) who have finished 6 out of 6 races will receive a voucher worth €100 for ski touring suits, while all competitors who have finished 5 out of 6 races will receive a long-sleeved jersey and a carbon polypropylene band worth a total of €84.
