.With just over a week to go until the start of the 25th edition of the Lagorai Cima d'Asta, the Coppa Italia Trofeo Scarpa race, the Organising Committee has taken stock of the situation. "In these days - said the president of the Committee, Sergio Santuari - the logistic-organisational aspects are underway and we are ready to welcome the competitors who will arrive in Tesino on Sunday 8 March to compete in the 25th edition of the Lagorai Cima d'Asta. With the technical department, coordinated by Franco Melchiori, we are evaluating all possibilities in order to design the definitive route. Should the conditions remain unchanged, we will run along the route of the 2008 World Cup. The situation is quite good, near the Val Malene Campsite, the event headquarters, we don't have much snow, so we are organising to bring the start and finish area to Malga Sorgazza at an altitude of 1450 metres. The most important aspect is that the summit of the Cima d'Asta is 100% feasible. For us and for the athletes, climbing to the summit of Cima d'Asta is a fundamental element, that added value that honours the term "mountaineering".
The route will have a difference in altitude of around 1900 metres spread over three climbs. The ascent to the Cima d'Asta will be done on foot with skis on. The Juniors and Cadets will face different routes with less altitude difference. The Junior men's category will compete over eleven kilometres with 1115 metres of ascent and 1338 downhill.
All juniors will have to compete over two climbs with a walking section during the second ascent and as many descents. For the cadet category, boys and girls, and the junior girls, the length will be 10.5 kilometres, again with two ascents and the same number of descents, but the gradients will be less, 915 metres uphill and 1138 metres downhill.
In terms of special initiatives, to celebrate the 25th edition, the organising committee, in collaboration with main sponsor Dynafit, has set up three special prizes. The Broad Peak ski will be presented to the competitor who comes closest to the ideal time on the Senior course, while the Cho Oyo 35 backpack and a 60-litre Dynafit Duffle Bag will be the prizes for the winners of the photo competition. The rucksack is reserved for the 'youngsters' competition under the age of 18, who will have to demonstrate their skills in taking the winning photo in the finish-start area.
The race, which runs in the Lagorai mountain range, has always kept the international aspect in mind with the aim of making the beauty of the Tesino basin known beyond the borders. The Organising Committee signed an important partnership with Austria a few months ago. The Lagorai Cima d'Asta will be a combined event with the Hohe Tauren Trophy, a ski mountaineering competition scheduled for 21 March 2015 in Matrei in Osttirol in the Großglockner and Großvenediger massif, about 70 kilometres from San Candido (BZ). This interesting competition will be valid as the final round of the Dynafit Austrian Skitour.
