This morning at the Oberalp/Dynafit headquarters the eighth edition of the Marmotta Trophy ski mountaineering race valid as the third round of the Ski Mountaineering World Cup was presented. Oberalp Group President Heiner Oberrauch did the honours. "I am proud," said Oberrauch, "that Dynafit is the main sponsor of the Marmotta Trophy. In all these years we have focused a lot on the innovation of our products and to collaborate with an event that is part of the Ski Mountaineering World Cup is a source of pride and represents our thinking at its best. For us, ski mountaineering competitions are like Formula 1 in motor racing, a select few will ever be able to drive a single-seater, but the whole world will benefit from the innovation and study behind those projects".
After the president of the Oberalp Group, Oscar Angeloni event manager of Dynafit, who has been closely following the competitions included in the 'Race Attack' project in recent months, greeted the press present. "Collaborating with the guys from Val Martello," said Angeloni, "is a fundamental element for our project. The Marmotta Trophy best represents the idea of authentic ski mountaineering, immersed in nature where technique and knowledge of the mountains are basic features".
Also arriving in Bolzano to bring greetings from the International Federation was Ismf Vice President Rebecca Vernon. "In recent months we have worked a lot," said Vernon, to fine-tune all aspects of this important World Cup stage. After the stages in Puy Saint Vincent and Andorra, the athletes are ready to compete at the highest level after the World Championships in Verbier".
"The Val Martello - said the provincial councillor for sport Marta Stocker - represents the genuine way of living in our area, moreover I like to think that modern ski mountaineering is the child of the authentic way of moving in the mountains of the past. In addition, hosting the World Cup means exporting our way of life".
After the institutional speeches, the representatives of the Organising Committee of the third stage of the Scarpa ISMF World Cup circuit took the floor. The first to report on the state of play was the mayor of Martell, Georg Altstätter. "The situation," said the mayor, "is under control, both the technical and the logistical aspects are under scrutiny these days. With the International Federation we talk almost every day, so nothing will be left to chance. My personal thanks must go to Dynafit, the institutions, the sponsors, but above all I must say thank you to the volunteers (almost one hundred) who will be working at the end of the month for this eighth edition".
After the mayor's speech, Leander Regensburger and Peter Altstätter explained the programme and the course characteristics. "The World Cup - said Regensburger - will start on Friday afternoon with the accreditation of the teams and the opening ceremony. On Saturday morning at 9 a.m. near the Pardiso Hotel the individual race will start, while the Sprint Race will start on Sunday morning from the Biathlon Centre".
Peter Altstätter, bringing the press conference to a close, projected the plans of the Individual Race route. "At altitude," announced Altstätter, "we have less snow than in past editions, but the snowpack at the highest points is up to one and a half metres. These days, thanks to the high temperatures, it is stabilising. The Senior categories will compete on a course with 1700 metres of positive altitude difference spread over four climbs. On the second and third climbs, there will be two sections to be tackled on foot with skis in the rucksack".
The press conference ended with a film of Alex Fasser, who had participated in the Marmotta Trophy in 2013.
