Spectacle at the first edition of the Mezzalama Jeunes, the Cadets and Juniors, the future of ski mountaineering, competed on a technical course in the Canalino dell'Aquila area

This morning from Gabiet (Gressoney La Trinité) the first edition of the Mezzalama Jeunes was run, a team ski mountaineering race reserved for the Junior and Cadet categories, part of the Grande Course international circuit. The youngsters were blessed by a sunny day with spring-like temperatures even at high altitude, the last sunshine before the worsening of the weather conditions that forced the Mezzalama Trophy Foundation to postpone by a week the start of the 20th edition of the "glacier marathon".
 The Junior category boys competed along a course of 1500 metres of positive height difference spread over four climbs, with the technical section of the Aquila gully to be tackled on foot with skis in the rucksack. The cadets and girls in the Junior category raced on a reduced course with 900 metres of positive height difference with three climbs and the same walking section of the Canalino dell'Aquila.
 In the Junior event, the race was decided on the third climb with Erik Pettavino and Enrico Cognein breaking away and starting to stretch out over Mathias Trento and Andrea Dellavalle from Aosta Valley. In third position Fabio Pettinà and Matteo Cuel, who until the end of the second climb were shoulder to shoulder with the outriders.
 The Piedmontese/Valdaostan team of Pettavino and Cognein in the last climb could administer the advantage on Trento-Dellavalle going then to cross the finish line of Gabiet with the time of 2:04'30'', Trento-Dellavalle confirm the second position 2'05'' behind. The podium was completed by the Veneto team of Fabio Pettinà and Matteo Cuel. In fourth place were Enrico Loss and Daniele Carobbio, Loïc Brouet and David Pérez were fifth.
 As for the Cadet category, it was the team from Cogne formed by the brothers Sébastien and Fabien Guichardaz who won with a time of 1:22'09'' ahead of Marco Cunaccia and Michele Carelli. Third place went to the Andorran Martí Torregrosa and Sergi Casabella.
 Among the girls in the Cadet category was won by the team formed by Giorgia Felicetti and Melanie Ploner with a time of 1:39'42'', behind them came the Swiss Florence Buchs paired with the Italian Giulia Murada. Elisa Pedrolini and Alessia Re took third place.
 Among the Juniors, victory went to the Swiss pair of Deborah Chiarello and Marianne Fatton. The Swiss finished with a time of 1:37'40''. Second place went to Giulia Gherardi and Debora Contrio.
