The final countdown has begun to lead the over one thousand registered competitors to the start of the 5th edition of the Ultrabericus Trail. Appointment in Piazza dei Signori on Saturday 14 March starting at 9.00 a.m., then the start is scheduled for 10.00 a.m. on the dot.
In the meantime, this morning the race was officially presented at the customary joint press conference between the two big protagonists of the two March weekends of all-sports made in Vicenza: Ultrabericus Trail and StraVicenza (scheduled for next 22 March).
The circumnavigation of the Berici Hills confirms the large number of registered participants, with 1,000 athletes ready to sprint along the 65 km and 2,500 mD+ complete route, and no less than 100 couples who will pass the baton in the traditional He&She relay race.
Participants will come from 52 Italian provinces, representing 12 regions. There will also be the presence of foreign athletes, with some 30 coming from Hungary, Slovenia, Austria, Switzerland and Germany.
From Hungary will come one of the favourites in this 5th Ultrabericus, Csaba Nemeth (Mammuth Pro Team). For the Alpstation Team there will be Ivan Geronazzo, while Salomon will field Davide Cheraz. Filippo Canetta, Matteo Lucchese (Team New Balance), Beppe Marazzi (Team Vibram), Michail Mamleev (Valetudo Skyrunning Team), Mirko Righele (Alpstation Trail Team) and Fabrizio Roux (Compressport Italia) will also be there. In the women's race, all eyes are on the home athlete Federica Boifava and the Tuscan Maria Chiara Parigi, while among the pairs Lara Mustat and Gianluca Cola (Forrest Group) are intent, at least on paper, on seeking an encore after their 2014 victory. Crews of the calibre of Lisa Borzani and Paolo Pajaro (Team Vibram), Anna Zilio and Diego Dall'Amico, Tiziana Scorzato and Remo Lavarda, and Silvia Serafini and Michele Lazzari will try to keep up with them.
Alongside the Ultrabericus Team, organisers of the event, there are more than 300 volunteers committed to ensuring that every cog in the great Ultrabericus Trail machine works to perfection: the Alpine groups of the Vicenza section, the Civil Protection, the Fidas and Fiasp groups, the Italian Red Cross and the Pro Loco of Mossano and Arcugnano. The race also sees the involvement of the Province of Vicenza and the municipalities of Vicenza, Arcugnano, Brendola, Barbarano, Castegnero, Grancona, Mossano, Nanto, San Germano dei Berici, Villaga and Zovencedo. In the field there will also be the main sponsors Sportler and PassioneTrail, which has created the jerseys that all finishers will have to earn at the finish line, as well as Menabrea beer, Lovison confectionery, Bertagni fresh pasta, and Massigen supplements.
.As every year, Ultrabericus will also be a ground for solidarity. And so it is that in 2015 the home athlete, Federica Boifava, will be running with an important objective: that of raising awareness of the issue of violence against women, supporting Women for freedom, donne per la libertà Onlus. The association, founded in Marostica in early 2014, operates not only in Italy, but also in Nepal, Cameroon and Romania, focusing on projects to prevent human trafficking and domestic violence. Women for freedom acts with school support initiatives, micro-credit, training for new start-ups aimed at self-generation of income so that women living in difficult situations can improve their lives and those of their children by gaining individual freedom, economic independence and social inclusion. More information on the organisation's activities can be found at www.womenforfreedom.org.
The event programme will open on Friday at the Patronato Leone XII in Contrà Vittorio Veneto in Vicenza. Here, from 17.30 to 21.00, the bib distribution will take place, a procedure that will be repeated on Saturday morning from 7.00 to 9.00. Immediately afterwards there will be a move to Piazza dei Signori to start the punching and sample checks on the compulsory material that each athlete must have with them during the race. At 9.30 a.m. there will be the customary briefing on the starting line, in anticipation of the green light, which for the over 1000 registered athletes will go off at 10.00 a.m. on the dot. Those who wish to follow the finish line will be able to wait for the first finishers from 3.30 p.m. onwards, and then the parade of athletes will continue until 11 p.m.
.From 17.00 to 23.00 at the Patronato Leone XII there will also be hot refreshments available for athletes. Access to changing rooms, showers, swimming pool and massage area will be possible from 16.00.
At 6.30 p.m., again at the Patronato Leone XII, the prize-giving ceremony will take place.
On the occasion of the bib distribution, registration for the Trans d'Havet 2015 (scheduled for 25 July) will also officially open, with the possibility of immediately snatching a ticket for the 80 km of the Little Dolomites. On 16 March, registration will also open online. Also at the bib delivery desk, it will be possible to register for the 25 April appointment with the Lumignano Vertical Sprint (time trial in two heats of 1 km and 200 m dsl), organised in collaboration with the Ultrabericus Team within the Lumignano Outdoor 360°.
