Walker Peak: first winter ascent of the Gousseault Route on the north face

On 16 February 1973, René Desmaison, Giorgio Bertone and Michel Claret completed the direct ascent of the Walker Spur. The route was named by its first ascenders the Via Gousseault, dedicated to Serge, Desmaison’s ill-fated climbing partner during the dramatic ascent of the same walls in 1971.
