On the night of 14 October 2000, the most devastating flooding in recent years began in the Aosta Valley. The flooding lasted for more than two days, claiming 17 lives. The worst-affected towns were Pollein, Charvensod, Fénis, Nus and Donnas. For several days, hundreds of volunteers from all over Italy helped the local population to get things back to normal.
