On 21 April 1956, Angelo Dibona, a mountain guide and mountaineer renowned for being one of the most prolific climbers of the 20th century, died in Cortina d’Ampezzo. His climbing was mainly in the Dolomites, with a few forays into the Western Alps. A mountain hut at the foot of the Tofane is named after him.
