The Piora and Cadlimo area is rich in lakes and ponds, from the largest, the Ritom reservoir, to microscopic ones such as Isra.
The Dark Lake of Cadlimo is bordered to the south by the Bocchetta del Lago Scuro, along which runs the continental divide between the Mediterranean and the Atlantic. Waters flowing down to the south end up in the Ticino, Po and Adriatic rivers, those flowing down to the north are channelled into the Rhine to flow into the Atlantic at Rotterdam.
On the way up from Lake Tom, one encounters the three Taneda microlakes, situated on terraces, invisible from below.
Access routes:
- from the Leventina: Ritom dam, Lake Tom, Bocchetta del Lago Scuro, lake.
- from Blenio: Lucomagno pass, Cadlimo valley, Cadlimo hut, lake.
On the descent from the Cadlimo Hut towards Stabbio Nuovo, it is possible to lean south, climb up to the little Miniera lake, pass the small pass (T3) and descend to the Dentro del Cadagno lake, then to Cadagno. The little Miniera lake takes its name from the attempts made at the beginning of the 1900s to exploit the iron materials present in the area. The project was fortunately abandoned due to the high transport costs and low yield of material.
