Lake Tom is located just 200 metres higher than Lake Ritom, in a wide basin, easily reached on foot in an hour or so from the Lake Ritom dam.A summer picnic destination for families and patient fishermen. To the north it is bordered by the ascent wall to the Bocchetta del Lago Scuro, behind which lies the Lago Scuro del Cadlimo (see). A small pass to the east allows a direct descent to the Cadagno area.The Piora and Cadlimo area is rich in lakes and ponds: Tom is one of the largest. This area produces what in my opinion is the best cheese in Ticino, the Piora. Aged for at least eight months, it releases its full flavour with a honeyed aftertaste on the taste buds, leaving a trace in the mouth for several minutes.
