Description

The Regional Natural Park of the Friulian Dolomites was established in 1996. It is located in the mountainous area above the upper Friulian-Venetian plain and comprises 36,950 hectares of protected territory between the provinces of Pordenone and Udine. It is a true paradise for nature hiking and trekking, activities guaranteed by an adequate network of trails and a large number of huts and bivouacs. The entire area is considered to be of great geological, environmental, historical and natural interest and is characterised by a high degree of wilderness.

Wanderings

Visitors can easily identify the tourist routes located in different places. The Wounded Birds of Prey Recovery Centre located in the village of Andreis certainly arouses curiosity; the aviaries that house birds of prey in difficulty can be visited. In addition to the avifauna area, it is possible to visit the Visitor Centre and the thematic exhibition. In Forni di Sopra you can discover the medicinal plants and typical vegetation of the area along a simple itinerary called "Sentiero dei bambini", visiting the botanical garden and the Visitors Centre dedicated to plants. In Erto and Casso, on the other hand, we can learn all about the Vajont tragedy with specially designed themed itineraries both in the environment and in the Erto Visitors' Centre, which is considered one of the most important and complete documentation centres on the Vajont disaster. Poffabro and its ancient village, one of the most beautiful in Italy, are well worth a visit.

Visitor Centres

The Park's hospitality towards visitors takes concrete form in the activation of a series of Visitor Centres whose aim is to inform, introduce and direct the user to discover the territory and its characteristics and peculiarities.
