Introduction

This hike does not present any climbing difficulties and allows a very scenic route, which in the second part breaks away from the more crowded route towards the Magelicke, to reach a scenic shoulder at the base of the little-visited eastern slope of the Magehorn. The panorama is stupendous and stretches as far as the eye can see over the vast, immaculate slopes that descend towards the Simplon Pass from the numerous peaks above it.

Description

From the car park, scrape along the road until you reach a small descent that leads to the clearly visible Nideralp huts below (1815m), which you soon reach and cross in the direction of a small bridge that crosses the stream. Remaining on the left, walk towards a sparse forest that stretches over a marked ridge and that you climb up, zigzagging at the steepest points; when the slope decreases a little and you come out into more open spaces, move to the right, aiming for the evident rocky bastion of Hotosse. Pass underneath it with a long traverse that is very scenic but not exposed until you cross the long ridge that descends to the left from the Galehorn after which, now having the Magehorn in front of you, you head along a non-obligatory route towards the ridge that descends from its eastern slope, to the right, and which presents a sort of rocky triangle at the beginning; Once you reach the rocky triangle and aim at the wide slope of the wall, keep to the left of the ridge line, which you climb up again by making a few hairpin bends and shortly reaching the scenic shoulder below the eastern slope.
