Monte Aiona refuge at Pratomollo
Access
From Rezzoaglio (from the A12 motorway exit of Lavagna), go up towards Santo Stefano without reaching it. You turn right for Amborzasco and proceed further on. You leave your car at the large car park of the Casa forestale del Penna - It is always very convenient to buy petrol at the Carasco Ipercoop petrol station (with the coop petrol card at 1.945! Around 10 cents less than usual)
.Introduction
In the area, the Aiona is one of the highest mountains in the Ligurian Apennines and the hike takes you through beautiful fir and beech forests.
Description
From the forecourt of the Casa forestale del Penna (1387 m), go back a few dozen metres until you come to a dirt track that climbs to the left and which you follow into the dense forest. First, take the main path to the right and then turn right from a building in a very slight descent (1432 m). One follows a section of the Ophiolite path, from the type of rocks present in the area. Continue to the construction (Rip. Moglie Negretta). Immediately there is the Dragonale crossroads (1382 m), where one keeps left uphill to the Spingarda pass (1551 m). You ignore to the right x the summit of the Aiona, about 40' away. Continue downhill until you see a small chapel. To the left, at 1', is the huge Pratomollo building, unfortunately still closed due to the lack of a manager (1550 m); 2h15 and 170 m asl, there are some benches where you can take a pleasant break. Return along the outward route: turn right at the fork! 2h ret. + 80 m asl
In a nutshell. Dif. T - difference in altitude 250 m - 14 km - approx. 4h15 (2h15 and 2h ret.). Ride comfort: fair/very good (we chose to ride on the widest slopes).
